Thomaston marked a major milestone on Saturday with the centerpiece celebration of its 150th anniversary: a town-wide parade that drew hundreds to the center of town. The event, which began at 2:00 PM, brought together local organizations, decorated floats, costumed marchers, and community members of all ages. Following the procession, crowds gathered at Sanford Field for live music by local bands Funnel and Radio Rewind and a variety of food trucks offering food and refreshments through the evening.
The celebration was the product of months of volunteer coordination and collaboration across departments, civic groups, and residents. Parade Chairman Allan Olivero credited the town’s collective effort in making the day possible. “This celebration was, above all, a shining example of what we can achieve when we come together as a community,” he wrote in a public statement of thanks. “I am immensely proud to have been a part of this remarkable event.”
Community members filled sidewalks and fields throughout the afternoon, with many lingering into the evening for food and music. Olivero noted the work of many individuals in organizing the event, and expressed special thanks to his fellow fire department members, town staff, and residents who assisted with judging, setup, and coordination. “Your collective time, dedication, and effort brought everything together beautifully and ensured the smooth running of the festivities,” he said.
Attention now turns to the next event in Thomaston’s year-long anniversary celebration. On Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a Family Fun Day will be held at Nystrom’s Park. The free event is open to all and will feature food, drinks, and games.
