This Week in Thomaston highlights several town meetings and party caucuses early in the week, kicking off the new year with opportunities for residents to engage in local government.
Town Committee Caucuses — January 12 and 13
According to legal notices posted, both major political parties in Thomaston will hold caucuses this week to elect members of their respective town committees.
The Thomaston Democratic Town Committee will hold its caucus on Monday, January 12 at 6 p.m. in Town Hall. The Thomaston Republican Town Committee will hold its caucus on Tuesday, January 13 at 7 p.m., also in Town Hall.
Each caucus is open to registered voters enrolled in the party holding the caucus and will be used to elect members of that party’s town committee. Town committees serve as the local-level organizations of Connecticut’s political parties and play an important role in organizing local elections, including endorsing candidates and coordinating campaigns. Residents who are unsure of their party enrollment status can check their registration online through the Secretary of the State’s office or by contacting the registrar of voters.
