Thomaston will mark a major milestone this summer as the town celebrates its 150th anniversary with a parade on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The event is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m., with Main Street closing down for what organizers are calling the “party of the century.”
The 150th Anniversary Parade will bring together neighbors, civic organizations, local businesses, and community groups in a celebration of Thomaston’s rich history and vibrant present. Floats, musical performances, costumed marchers, pets, sports teams, and antique vehicles are all expected to roll through town in a festive display. The parade will end at Sanford Field, where a community festival will take over with food trucks, a local band, and other entertainment.
Thomaston was officially incorporated on July 6, 1875, but its roots stretch back much further. Originally part of the Mattatuck Plantation, the area evolved from the Northbury Parish in 1739 to part of Watertown in 1780, and later became known as Plymouth Hollow. The arrival of clockmaker Seth Thomas in 1813 marked a turning point—his successful business, civic leadership, and influence on the routing of the Naugatuck Railroad laid the foundation for the town’s eventual separation. When Thomaston was established as its own municipality, it was named in honor of Mr. Thomas.
To pull off this historic event, the 150th Anniversary Committee is asking for volunteers to help with setup and coordination. Parade Chairman Allan Olivero notes that help is especially needed starting at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the parade to set up signage, prepare the reviewing stand in front of Thomaston Savings Bank, place chairs and a PA system on a trailer, and manage trash collection and cleanup at Sanford Field. Assistance is also needed for post-event cleanup and logistics throughout the day—including those willing to bring a golf cart to help with parade organization. Additional parade judges are also being sought. Residents interested in helping should email Mr. Olivero at aolivero@thomastonct.org.
The celebration also will include some friendly competition. Awards will be given for best costumes, floats, transportation, entertainment, and more—including a Best Beard Contest judged at Sanford Field after the parade.
Whether you want to lend a hand, join the parade, or just enjoy the show, Thomaston’s 150th anniversary promises to be an unforgettable community event. Mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate the legacy of our town!
