Thomaston Republicans, Democrats to Hold Caucuses for November Election

Two major meetings in the next week will offer the first look at who’s hoping to lead Thomaston for at least the next two years.

With longtime First Selectman Ed Mone not seeking re-election this fall, both the Democratic and Republican Town Committees will be holding nominating caucuses to endorse their slates of candidates. These caucuses are open to registered party members and will take place in the Lena Morton Gallery of Town Hall. Republicans will meet this Friday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m., while Democrats will hold their caucus the following Tuesday, July 22, also at 7:00 p.m.

The caucuses will determine which names appear on the November ballot under each party line. While no candidates have officially declared, the Chronicle has previously reported on several potential contenders from both parties who may seek the First Selectman role. July’s caucuses will confirm who actually steps forward.

Beyond the First Selectman seat, each party will also endorse candidates for additional local offices, including the Board of Selectmen, Board of Education, Board of Finance, and Board of Library Trustees. Residents who are interested in participating must be registered members of the respective political party. If you’re unsure of your party status, you can check your voter registration at the Secretary of the State’s website.

Party caucuses are often overlooked but represent a critical step in shaping who gets a voice on the ballot. If you’re a registered Democrat or Republican, showing up this month is your chance to help decide who will represent your party — and potentially the town — for the next two years.
