Note: Since this article was published, the race for First Selectman has changed. The contest is now between Rich Sileo and Jeff Dunn. Keep up to date at our Election page!

With both parties having held their nominating caucuses, the contours of Thomaston’s November election are coming into focus — including a contested race for First Selectman, in what will be the first election in over 15 years without Ed Mone on the ballot.

Republicans have endorsed George Seabourne for First Selectman, putting forward a candidate with deep roots in the community and town government. Seabourne currently chairs the Republican Town Committee and serves on the Board of Finance. He is also a former president of the Rotary Club and a former chairman of the Thomaston Savings Bank Board of Directors. His past service also includes leadership roles on the Library Board, Opera House Commission, and at St. Peter’s-Trinity Episcopal Church.

Democrats countered Tuesday night by nominating Jeffrey Dunn, the Executive Director of Landmark Community Theatre and a sitting member of the Board of Selectmen. Dunn has previously chaired the town’s Economic Development Commission and has been active in regional organizations including the Waterbury Arts and Culture Collaborative and the Western Connecticut Tourism District.

Longtime Board of Education member Beth Campbell was nominated by Democrats to run for a seat on the Board of Selectmen. A member of the school board since 2013, Campbell joins Dunn in leading a ticket with backgrounds in various town boards and commissions. On the Republican side, Julie Ingham edged out incumbent Mike Burr in a close caucus vote to claim the party’s nomination for the Board of Selectmen.

Other contests include the Board of Education, where Republicans nominated newcomers Marissa McGee, Amy Sedgwick, and Larry Duffany, opting not to re-nominate incumbent Matthew Van Ormer. Democrats selected former Board of Education chair Becky Shypinka and Cara Files. For the Board of Finance, Democrats nominated Kristin Mosimann, a previous town treasurer, who will face off against Republican nominees Luke Freimuth and Jack DeOlivera.

A full list of Republican and Democratic nominees, including candidates for all offices up for election this year is available on our election page, which will also include candidate profiles in the weeks ahead.
