Thomaston Public Schools proudly announced the recipients of the district’s Teacher of the Year and Paraprofessional of the Year awards during the September 8, 2025, Board of Education meeting. These recognitions celebrate two outstanding educators whose dedication, professionalism, and care continue to make a profound impact on the Thomaston school community.
Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Tammy Dumas

Mrs. Tammy Dumas, a veteran educator in Thomaston High School’s special education department, has been recognized as Teacher of the Year. Known for her wisdom, courage, and advocacy, Mrs. Dumas is celebrated as a trusted voice for students and a respected leader among colleagues.
Her influence is evident both in the classroom and throughout the district. Students in her Academic Support and co-taught classes demonstrate remarkable academic progress, confidence, and resilience. Colleagues describe her as a steady hand, a professional mentor, and a source of encouragement who consistently raises expectations for excellence.
“This recognition honors not only Tammy’s professional excellence, but also her character, generosity, and steady presence in our schools,” the Roxy Fainer, Board Chairperson noted. “She is a trusted advocate, a supportive teammate, and a source of light for so many.”
Paraprofessional of the Year: Ms. Gabrielle “Gabby” Malick

Ms. Gabrielle Malick, who works in the preschool classroom alongside teacher Nicole Sul, has been named Paraprofessional of the Year. Ms. Malick demonstrates exceptional skill, initiative, and commitment.
Ms. Malick is praised for her creativity, compassion, and persistence in the classroom. She brings daily energy, humor, and professionalism to her work, inspiring both students and colleagues. Her dedication to learning and applying best practices in early childhood education has been described as “truly remarkable.”
“Gabby is not only a nurturing presence for her students, but also an exemplary colleague,” said Mrs. Sul. “She takes initiative, solves problems, and supports her coworkers with the best interest of our students always in mind. I could not be more proud to call her my teaching partner.”
Superintendent Francine Coss and the Board of Education extend their congratulations and gratitude to Mrs. Dumas and Ms. Malick for their contributions to Thomaston Public Schools. Their work exemplifies the mission of the district: to educate, challenge, and inspire each individual to excel and become a contributing member of society.
