It’s a busy week in Thomaston, with plenty of ways to get involved, give back, and stay informed. The Clocktown Chronicle plans to share roundups like this when we can to help residents stay connected to what’s happening around town.
Here are just a few of the events happening around town this week:
Thomaston Fire Department Breakfast — Sunday, November 9
The Fire Department’s regular community breakfast returns this Sunday from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at the fire station. Admission is $10, $8 for seniors and veterans, and free for children under three. In honor of Veterans Day, all veterans are invited for the discounted rate.
24th Annual Diane Burr Memorial 5K Flag Run — Sunday, November 9
The Diane Burr Memorial 5K Flag Run/Walk begins Sunday afternoon from Clay Street, behind the Thomaston Opera House. Bib pickup opens at noon in the Lena Morton Gallery at Town Hall. Online registration is $30 through the end of the day on November 8th, or $35 on race day. Participation in the Fun Run does not require registration. More information is available on the event website.
Board of Education Meeting — Monday, November 10
The Board of Education meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the Thomaston High School auditorium. The meeting is open to the public and will also stream live on the district’s YouTube channel. The Board will recognize the Thomaston High School boys cross country team, this year’s Class S state champions, along with several outgoing members of the board whose terms conclude this month. This will be the final meeting before newly elected members begin their full terms and officers are selected for the next cycle.
Community Meeting #2: School Feasibility Study — Thursday, November 13
The school’s second community workshop takes place Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Thomaston High School cafeteria. This session will feature the following breakout topics: retaining existing schools, reduction in the number of schools, exploration of shared services, and the potential for district regionalization. Residents are encouraged to attend and share feedback as consultants continue shaping recommendations for future consideration.
Night Out at the Library — Friday, November 14
The Friends of the Thomaston Public Library host a creative evening from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. For $40 per person (cash or check paid at the library), attendees can paint a seasonal-themed wine glass under the guidance of instructor Ash Royer. Materials and light refreshments are included, and participants may bring their own beverages. Proceeds benefit library programming.
Fire Department Food and Toy Drive — Saturday, November 15
The Thomaston Fire Department will host its annual Food and Toy Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fire Station (245 South Main Street). Residents can donate non-perishable food items and new, unwrapped toys to help local families in need.
George Saterial Magic Show — Saturday, November 15
World-renowned illusionist George Saterial will bring his award-winning magic show to the Thomaston Opera House on Saturday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are $15 each and available through online. All children are admitted free. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Newington VA Medical Center Food Pantry.
As the Chronicle continues this series, we aim to share a snapshot of Thomaston’s week – from town meetings to community fundraisers. While not every event can be included, we encourage local organizations to contact us to have future programs featured in upcoming editions.
