Republican Rich Sileo has been elected Thomaston’s next First Selectman, defeating Democrat Jeff Dunn by a 68–32 margin in Tuesday’s election. The outcome ensures that a Republican will continue to lead Thomaston for at least the next two years, following the retirement of longtime First Selectman Ed Mone.
In the race for the Board of Selectmen, Republican Michael Burr and Democrat Beth Campbell won seats, with Burr receiving 1,249 votes and Campbell receiving 929. Campbell’s total surpassed that of her running mate Dunn (708), meaning she will be seated on the board alongside Burr and Sileo. Campbell moves into the role after serving more than a decade on the Board of Education.
“I would first like to thank Jeff Dunn for running a great campaign and for his commitment to the town of Thomaston,” Sileo said in a statement to the Clocktown Chronicle. “I would like to thank everyone in the town of Thomaston for believing in me. I will not let you down.” Sileo also thanked his wife, Kate, along with friends and the Republican team for their support throughout the campaign.
Dunn did not immediately respond to a request for comment. This article will be updated if a statement is provided.
Sileo indicated that the Republican Town Committee will be discussing their recommendation to fill the vacancy on the Board of Finance, as he prepares to take office as First Selectman.
Newly elected officials are expected to take office later this month following a swearing-in ceremony at Town Hall. Results for all races, according to the Secretary of the State’s office, are available on our Election 2025 page.
More than one thousand people viewed the Chronicle’s candidate profiles and Q&As in the week leading up to the election, representing a substantial share of the total votes cast in the First Selectman race. We thank all the candidates for participating and helping to inform Thomaston’s voters.
