The preliminary design phase has been completed for the Elm Street Reconstruction Project, identified as LOTCIP Project No. L140-0003, following the town meeting vote in October to remove the Naugatuck River Greenway from the design.

According to First Selectman Richard Sileo, the project includes a complete roadway reconstruction, a new stormwater system, concrete sidewalks on both sides of the road, and defined parking along most of the roadway.

The project also includes several safety-related improvements, including raised pedestrian crossings and a raised intersection intended to increase pedestrian visibility and reduce speeds along the roadway.

There will be an informational meeting on the project on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Lena Morton Gallery in Town Hall. A discussion of the project will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation of project plans at 6:30 p.m.
