Starting July 14, Thomaston’s new Town Hall hours may make it easier—or harder—for residents to access services. The revised schedule closes town hall offices on Fridays. According to the town’s announcement, the updated hours will be Monday through Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and closed on Fridays.
The extended Thursday hours aim to accommodate residents who may find it challenging to visit during standard workdays. However, the complete closure on Fridays removes a longstanding option for end-of-week visits, potentially impacting those who previously relied on that half day for town services.
The change creates a four-day workweek for town staff, though it does not appear to reduce the total number of hours employees will work. Instead, the new schedule redistributes existing hours across a condensed week, including an extended Thursday to allow for evening access. Town Hall employee hours are governed primarily by union contracts, notably the White Collar Union. The current agreement, available on the town’s website, is set to expire on June 30, 2025—just two weeks before the new hours go into effect.
