The Thomaston Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, June 30th, at 6 p.m. in Meeting Room One at Thomaston Town Hall to receive a presentation on the completed school feasibility study.
Representatives from Drummey Rosane Anderson, Inc. (DRA), the consulting firm hired to conduct the study, will present findings from the study during the meeting. A full copy of the report has been published within the posted agenda. The meeting may be attended in person or viewed live and later on the Board of Education’s YouTube channel.
The agenda also includes a public participation period following the presentation and Board discussion, giving residents an opportunity to comment before the Board considers any potential next steps.
The more than 300-page report examines a broad range of issues affecting the future of Thomaston’s schools, including enrollment trends, building utilization, potential grade reconfigurations, opportunities for shared services, and possible regionalization options. Among its findings, the report projects continued declines in district enrollment over the next decade, a trend the study notes is consistent with demographic patterns seen in many communities throughout New England.
The study also incorporates community feedback gathered through surveys, workshops, focus groups, and other public engagement efforts conducted during the planning process. Various school configuration scenarios were evaluated as part of the study, along with potential operational efficiencies and opportunities for collaboration with neighboring districts.
The feasibility study stems from a $111,000 appropriation approved by voters at the July 2025 special town meeting. Since then, consultants have held multiple public workshops and gathered community input as part of the planning process. Residents are encouraged to attend Tuesday’s presentation, which is expected to provide a comprehensive review of the report and its findings.
