Occupation / Professional Background:
Duffany is department head and Campus Minister at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol, where he is entering his 14th year. He has also been an adjunct professor at Albertus Magnus College for 18 years, teaching English and Humanities, and has taught for more than 13 years in the University of Dayton’s Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation. Previously, he worked in the Office of Catholic Schools in various director-level roles for 10 years and has also served as a principal and teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a Professional Educator Certificate in 7–12 English, a master’s in Teaching from Sacred Heart University, and is completing a doctorate in education (Ed.D.)
Volunteer / Community Involvement:
Duffany has been active with Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance since 1985, serving as an EMT and later as an EMS and American Heart Association Instructor. He is also Chaplain to the Thomaston Fire Department and serves on the board of directors of Carolyn’s Place in Waterbury.

Graduated from Thomaston High School in 1983. He and his wife, Janet, raised two children in Thomaston.
Direct from the candidate – why are you running for office?
Larry graduated from Thomaston High School in 1983 and has fond memories of the excellence of education and community that existed. He desires to help the system restore academic rigor and the building of a community of educators and learners. He sees the work of the board as an exercise in stewardship, for the preservation and promotion of the children’s education, the educators’ development, the facilities and equipment entrusted to the board, and the capital necessary for the running of a public school system. He also sees that there are challenges in some of these areas and desires to help the town meet those needs.
