The following press release was provided to Clocktown Chronicle by Superintendent Francine Coss.

Thomaston High School offers students a thoughtfully designed academic program that combines rigor, flexibility, and opportunity within a personalized learning environment. The 2026–2027 Program of Studies reflects a districtwide commitment to providing students with meaningful pathways to college, careers, and lifelong learning.

Students at Thomaston High School benefit from access to a wide range of college-level coursework through partnerships with the University of Connecticut (Early College Experience), Southern Connecticut State University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Northwestern Connecticut Community College, Naugatuck Valley Community College, and Post University. These partnerships allow students to earn transferable college credit while learning in a familiar, supportive setting with educators they know.

The program also includes a strong selection of Career and Technical Education offerings, including Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Construction Technology, Industrial Arts, Small Engine Repair, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Digital Arts, Accounting, Marketing, and STEM-focused engineering coursework. These courses connect classroom learning to real-world skills and practical career exploration.

Thomaston High School provides multiple levels of academic challenge, including College Preparatory, Honors, Advanced Placement, and College-Level courses, ensuring that students are supported while being appropriately challenged. The required four-year Portfolio and Capstone Project further strengthens the program by emphasizing planning, research, and presentation skills that prepare students for life after high school.

The district also offers a comprehensive Life Skills Program focused on independent living, vocational readiness, and postsecondary transition planning, reflecting a commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

During a recent Tri-Board meeting of the Board of Education, Board of Selectmen, and Board of Finance, an independent reviewer from DRA Architects, engaged as part of the district’s ongoing feasibility study of educational and instructional settings, offered the following observation:

“Thomaston offers more than most and Thomaston does it better than most.”

That assessment reflects the scope and depth of the district’s academic programming and the intentional work behind it.

Under Superintendent Coss’ leadership, she and her team of administrators and staff at Thomaston Public Schools have expanded academic and career pathways, strengthened college and workforce partnerships, and ensured that students have access to coursework that prepares them for life after graduation.
