As forecasters predict a prolonged stretch of extreme heat this week, town officials are advising residents that a cooling center will be available at the headquarters of the Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps, located at 237 South Main Street.

The cooling center will be available on an as-needed basis beginning Tuesday, June 30, through Sunday, July 5. More information is available by calling the Thomaston Police Department at 860-283-4343.

Weather forecasts for this week indicate daytime temperatures could climb into the upper 90s. Town officials and emergency personnel are also urging residents to check on family members, friends and neighbors, particularly older adults, individuals with underlying health conditions and those without access to air conditioning.
